Our First Date

Starting a new blog always feels like going on a first date. You never know if the things you are planning to say will upset someone or resonate with them. You get a little nervous and have a few butterflies in your stomach because you want to share part of yourself, your story and you want people to like it.

I take this leap into the great technological unknown because I have been realizing that we are a part of a different generation who no longer work a 9-5 job. This is something that no other generation has had to deal with. We are more frequently finding ourselves in jobs that require us to carry a smart phone in order to be contacted, even on the weekends. We are working from home, working jobs that didn’t exist five years ago, and more often doing it all in jeans rather than in suits. Although this means we are free to choose any job we like, it also means that the rules that used to apply to our work life are no longer relevant to us.

My hope is that you are able to get a lot out of this blog, and contribute your own thoughts and experiences. Together we can help each other deal with stubborn bosses who don’t accept technology, or are reluctant to try new things. Maybe we can even find some ways to deal with our family members who don’t understand exactly what we do and that it’s ok to work an atypical job.

Feel free to leave a comment. I’d love to hear what you have to say.

Here’s to our “first date” and hopefully many more.  I’m looking forward to getting to know you.
